Dead Drop Messaging app for iPhone and iPad

A dead drop is espionage trade craft (or method) for passing information between two people without meeting directly. The people may or may not know each other, but a dead drop location must be pre-determined. The Dead Drop Messaging app allows you to leave an anonymous message at your location. Anyone with the Dead Drop Messaging app can receive the message if they are within approximately 100 meters of the dead drop location. This App can be used for spy craft, scavenger hunts, anonymous communications, geocaching, . . . . have fun with it!

You must allow the App to use Location Services, and you must have an iCloud account to add or delete a message (read only otherwise). By design, the Dead Drop Messaging app gets your location and retrieves messages only when you launch the App or when you touch the refresh button. So, the App does not necessarily track your location. If you are concerned with operation security when leaving a message, you can refresh the App and then move away from the dead drop location before adding the message. The “Add” screen contains a map of the approximate location where the message will be left.

This App does not ask you to identify yourself. Messages are anonymous, but you can see the location where they were left. The “Detail” screen shows the message and a map of the approximate location where the message was left. Anyone can delete a message by pressing the trash can icon on the “Detail” screen.

This App is not designed for children, but if you see a message that is rude, crude, inappropriate, out of date, or you just don’t like -- delete it! If you don’t someone else will. Similarly, when leaving a message, keep in mind that it can be deleted by anyone. So, play nice.
